Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find a good mover?
A legal and above-board moving company will cover many of the following points without being prompted, and much of the details will be covered in their contract(s). If you’re not provided with this information, it’s probably a good idea to keep looking.
- All legitimate movers are licensed and insured. Don’t be shy about asking for proof of these.
- Know in advance how the moving company charges. Some charge an hourly rate and others charge by weight. Find out about additional fees for travel time, for gasoline, for extra protection of your items, for overnight storage, for large items, for additional crew members who may be deemed necessary once the move has begun, and the like.
- If it’s applicable to your move, ask if the company can store your goods overnight.
- Ask if the company requires a minimum charge, and about their cancellation policy.
- Make sure the company provides workers they’ve trained, You’ll get much better service than you would from a company which used day laborers who may not be adequately trained and who aren’t part of the regular staff.
- Although tipping is not as traditional as tipping at a restaurant, you might want to reward the crew for service that exceeds your expectation. A common tip is between 5%-10%.
- If the procedures for handling damage(s) or loss aren’t covered in the mover’s contract, that omission could become a source of contention. If it’s not there, ask how they handle damages and loss and then make sure it’s put in writing. (A 30-day time frame for reporting damages or loss is fairly common, as is the requirement that the moving company has the right to determine who will repair the damages or replace lost items.)
- Be sure you understand what items the company can’t (or won’t) move. By law, there are items that a moving company is prohibited from transporting. Also, some items are too delicate, or too important, to be loaded onto a truck. A good mover will let you know what those are and how to handle them.

Does it cost more to move on a weekend?
No, the price is the same regardless of time of month, year, or day.

Do you move pianos?
Yes, on a case-by-case basis, depending on the size of the piano and the logistics of the move.
Do you move pool tables and other large items?
Yes, on a case-by-case basis, depending on the size of the item(s) and the logistics of the move.
Do you assemble and/or disassemble items?
Generally, yes, and for no extra charge. However we do not assemble cribs or bunk beds. For other items, there's usually no problem. However, per our contract, we're excluded from liability for assembling or disassembling item(s). Please note that if special tools are needed, you are responsible for providing them.
How far in advance should I book a move?
The sooner the better, but if you're caught with short notice, call and ask if there's an open time slot. Last minute moves can often be accommodated.
What forms of payment are accepted?
We accept VISA and MasterCard, check, or cash. However, per Federal regulations, payment for long distance moves must be by cash or certified check and is due prior to unloading.
Can I help move?
Yes you can help, but we ask that you understand a few things:
- You can’t go on the truck(s).
- Our crews carry furniture only with other crew members.
- Finally, if you help with any part of the move, we are excluded from liability, per our contract.
Do I need to be around during the entire move?
Either you, or someone you trust, must be there to facilitate a smooth and well-paced pick-up and delivery. if there is no one there to consult, we are not liable for moving items you hadn't intended to move, or for placing items where you didn't want them to be. To avoid upset and confusion, we reserve the right to insist that someone is there at all times.
